MTV India

Broadcast Design & Brand Identity

The Overview

As a Design Intern at Viacom18 Networks - MTV India, I worked on high-visibility projects ranging from experimental logo redesigns for web3 initiatives to station-wide broadcast animations. My role was to translate MTV’s iconic, loud, and youth-centric aesthetic into a variety of digital and motion-first formats.

Key Projects

1. MTV Logo Redesign: Roadies NFT Launch

In collaboration with Fully Faltoo, I designed a series of experimental MTV logo variations for the launch of the Roadies Special NFT collection.

  • The Concept: Reimagining the classic MTV "M" through a retro-tech and pixel-art lens.

  • Visual Themes: Created diverse iterations, including a pixelated spaceship, a Walkman-inspired logo, and a "chain-TV" with exhaust effects to match the high-octane energy of the Roadies brand.

  • Process: I led the creative exploration from initial sketches to high-fidelity pixel renders, ensuring each logo felt like a unique digital collectable.

Sketches and Iterations

2. Station Bug Animation: Independence Day

I was tasked with creating a special "Station Bug" (the on-screen channel logo) to celebrate Independence Day, which aired on national TV.

  • Motion Workflow: Used Blender for realistic cloth simulations to create a fluid, waving flag effect within the MTV logo.

  • Refinement: Applied meticulous rotoscoping in Adobe After Effects to seamlessly integrate the animation for broadcast.

  • Professional Collaboration: Worked closely with the senior design team to finalize the render and ensuring it met strict national broadcast standards.

The Reality Check: Process & Professional Growth

  • Storyboarding & Iteration: For the Independence Day animation, I developed detailed storyboards to map out the motion and timing before moving into 3D. This allowed for rapid feedback and adjustment from the network's creative directors.

  • Scaling for Broadcast: Working for national TV required a high level of technical precision. I learned to manage render times and file formats that could withstand the compression of broadcast transmission.

  • Web3 Integration: Designing for an NFT launch was an exercise in creating "scarcity through design" ensuring that while each logo was distinct, they all shared a cohesive, collectible visual language.
